Beth Canfield has had a significant and impactful career as a foster parent trainer, starting in the late 1980s. Her journey began when she and her husband, Mike, took on the role of House Parents for teen boys in March 1983. Recognizing the need for training in this field, Beth underwent a 60-hour in-service course called Foster Parent Scope. This marked the start of Beth's long career as a contracted trainer for the State of Washington.
Throughout her career, Beth has trained thousands of individuals, earning appreciation for her training style and genuine concern for the well-being of families dealing with traumatized children. In addition to her professional role, Beth and her husband, along with 2 sons and 3 nephew of their own, fostered a full house of six extremely challenged youth for 32 years. Some of those youths are in their 50’s and have grandchildren. It seems that her dedication to supporting families and children in need continues at Family Success Northwest.
Mike Canfield is an advocate for emotional control, collaboration, and social change. Starting his journey in a group home as a house parent with his wife Beth in 1983. His 33-year dedication to a statewide foster parent organization demonstrates his tireless commitment to improving the lives of foster children and families has left an indelible mark on the community. Mike has had many roles in the advocacy world including 20 years with the Washington Supreme Court Commission for Children in Foster Care. Mike has been influential in the creation of “We are Family Day” a celebration with the Seattle Mariners. Mike helped create a lawsuit that increased the basic rate for foster care, increasing the rate by over 30%. Throughout his extensive career, Mike’s advocacy for positive change and making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and their families continues to grow through his work with Family Success Northwest
Christin is a former Foster Parent and Adoptive Parent of a sibling group from foster care. She is currently a Kinship Provider for her grandson. Since becoming a foster parent in 1999, she received support from FPAWS in dealing with CPS investigations and navigating the foster care system. Without this support and training, she would not have remained a foster parent for eight years.. She is following her passion to support and educate parents and caregivers with Family Success Northwest.
Christin was a former FIRST representative for King County, a board treasurer for 2 nonprofits, coordinated caregiver support groups, and worked to recruit and retain foster parents. She continues to dedicate her time and knowledge to help Beth, Tracy, and Mike reach their goals.
Christin is a self-employed Event Manager of 15 years and owner of Ducks in a Row Events,. She is a former DSHS licensing caregiver trainer and special topics trainer. She created the Tax Tips for Foster Parent workshop and handbook that is still being used today by the National Foster Parent Association. Christin is passionate about education and support on issues of mental health (especially Reactive Attachment Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder), LGBTQ+, and parenting skills. She believes “when you know better, you do better” … Maya Angelou.
Tracy’s personal mission is to impact the lives of children through her interactions with the adults in their lives. She does this now as she works with foster, adoptive and relative families to build efficacy and skills that will enrich the lives of the children in their lives. Tracy works to find innovative ways to support and educate families throughout Washington State. She brings experience, education and compassion to families experiencing challenges. Tracy grew up understanding the need for quality caregivers and the importance of quality support systems. She watched as her mother worked for DSHS as a CPS caseworker and supervisor. Tracy has owned and operated 2 successful businesses serving the community and families. As a parent, she and her husband opened their home to other children as a safe place to learn and grow. Tracy and her husband served as foster parents for 9 1/2 years serving over 20 children during that time. Eventually, they adopted 3 children through the foster care system. She has worked hard to bless the lives of children and their families throughout her entire career. Tracy has a passion for the physical and mental health and welfare of families. Tracy has a Bachelor of Health Science - Major in Public Health - Emphasis in Public Health Education and a Bachelor of Arts - Commercial Art. Tracy is currently working on her Master’s in Mental Health counseling. Tracy brings leadership, research, inclusion and educator skills to Family Success Northwest. Tracy believes wholeheartedly that striving for excellence makes better possible. “If better is possible, good isn’t good enough” - Benjamin Franklin.
